Meet Dr. Efraín Rivera Bonilla
Dr. Efraín’s path to becoming a chiropractor wasn’t exactly conventional. In 2018, his dog suffered a severe accident that left him with a deviated pelvis and little hope for recovery without an expensive surgery. With few options left, Dr. Efraín got referred to a chiropractic veterinarian. “We gave it a shot just to see how it would go. Through chiropractic care, they were able to have him regain his function back to essentially 100% normal, as if he never had the accident.”
After witnessing his dog’s incredible recovery, something clicked for Dr. Efraín, and he thought: If chiropractic care could do this for animals, why not for people? So, he started researching the field and joined an organization for future chiropractors while completing his bachelor’s at the University of Puerto Rico.
Dr. Efraín is fluent in both English and Spanish, allowing him to seamlessly care for patients in both languages. His bilingual skills ensure that patients feel comfortable, understood, and well-informed throughout their treatment. Additionally, he is certified in Activator and Webster techniques.
A Path to Chiropractic Care
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Efraín moved to South Carolina in 2021 to pursue his chiropractic education at Sherman College of Chiropractic. While there, he specialized as an X-ray intern, gaining valuable hands-on experience in assessing spinal health. After graduating in September 2024, he joined High Point Chiropractic the following month.
Fulfillment in Helping Others
For Dr. Efraín, the most rewarding part of his work is helping patients reclaim their ability to enjoy life. Whether it’s returning to a favorite hobby, keeping up with family, or just moving without pain, he loves to see people regain their freedom and function.
Beyond the Office
When he’s not in the clinic, Dr. Efraín enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, Dr. Lake, who also practices chiropractic at the Burlington location. Together, they love exploring the Triad area, trying new restaurants, and spending time outdoors with their two dogs.
